And so it begins...

My baby boy is growing up.

I took this picture on Monday, which marks the first morning that there were absolutely NO TEARS before preschool. YAY! There were still tears once it was time for me to leave him at preschool, but it's still a work in progress and I'm really impressed with just how far he's come in a few short weeks.

I bought a set of kids multi-colored plastic plates, bowls and cups at Ikea a long time ago.  Owen has never cared which color dish that he uses.

The other day, I got out the pink plate, which was next on the stack in the cabinet, for Owen's snack.

He immediately told me, "I don't want THAT plate!!! It's PINK!! I don't LIKE pink!!"

My boy is growing up.

And so it begins.

When Dinosaurs Roamed the Earth

Today while we were driving in the car, Owen asked where dinosaurs live. I told him that they are not alive anymore. He was pretty sad about it, and wanted dinosaurs to "not be dead" RIGHT NOW! We spent probably 3 whole minutes discussing the fact that dinosaurs lived a long, long time ago and that we can see pictures of them in books or skeletons at museums.

Later this afternoon, I was at my mom's house. Owen was having a conversation with my mom about his baby cousin, Elena.

Owen: She has littly tiny teeth, huh?
Grandma Blue Eyes: Yes, you're right, Owen!
Owen: Her teeth are just growing because she is a baby. Hey, you know that I was a baby, long ago, when the dinosaurs lived??

I don't make this stuff up, folks.

I just had to document that because I sure do love that boy of mine.

Jesus wants me for a Sunbeam

Let it be known that on Sunday, March 4, 2012, Owen Edward Araiza went to his Sunbeams class all by himself for the first time. He cried a little bit, but his teacher said after awhile he looked at her and said, "I was sad because Mommy left me but now I'm not sad anymore. I am happy now."
And then he was fine!

Let it also be known that on Sunday, March 11, 2012, Owen went to Primary AND Sunbeams all by himself. That would be a total of 2 consecutive hours away from Mommy and Daddy. There were a few tears, but he was very brave.

We sure are proud of our big boy who, in his own words, "doesn't even cry!" anymore when he goes to Primary by himself. He loves his teachers, Sister Snedecor and Sister Harrison and the other kids in his class. He really looks forward to going to Primary every Sunday.

Mommy is especially enjoying her newfound freedom to go to Relief Society and Sunday school but feels a little sad that her mama's boy is growing up.

Random Pics

I've been meaning to download the pictures from my camera but haven't gotten around to it until now.  There's a bunch of pictures from random things, so I thought I'd post a few.

Our Disneyland passes started "blocking" us out in June and this picture was taken before one of our last trips.  He was very excited to go and picked out this Pluto shirt all by himself at the store so that he could wear it that day.

Rick got some new sunglasses and Owen decided to try them on.

A little while ago we got a twin size bed for Owen. I took him to the store to pick out his very own sheets and he went with Buzz and Woody.  I found a duvet cover at Home Goods for $15 and a duvet at Ikea for about $15 as well (not pictured).  When I fixed his bed for him, he seriously laid in it for a good twenty minutes.  He kept saying, "Owen really like this bed! Ooooooh.... this SO com-to-bull!  Just like Mommy and Daddy's covers!" He loves his new bed.

When we were potty training, the big bribe for Owen was to get a fish.  His one fish has turned into a full blown aquarium with six fish - Colors, Ariel, Nooni, Salsa, Candies, and Crazy -  a crab, Sebastian (may he RIP), a dwarf frog, Hoppy, and a snail, Cookies.
This was taken the day before Father's day. Owen decided to try on Rick's shoes, so I had to capture it on film.

That same day we were making a special father's day rice krispy treat for Rick. I guess Owen was feeling very father-like because he went to his room, found his tie, and put it on his pajama shirt.  Then he got one for me and put it on my shirt for me.
He was very proud of the rice krispy treat that he made for his daddy and had a wonderful time putting as many sprinkles on it as he wanted.

More to come...

Big Boy

We recently set up a twin bed for Owen to sleep in.  He'd been sleeping in his toddler bed, but with my growing belly it was getting increasingly difficult to squeeze myself onto that tiny toddler bed with him. (He likes to cuddle.)  There has been lots of talk about how he is a "big boy" now and so he sleeps in a "big boy" bed.

We have also been working toward getting rid of his pacifier, because he's almost 3 (yikes!) and... well... it's starting to affect his teeth.  He's been doing really good and hasn't gone to bed with one all week.  We keep telling him that he's a big boy now and that he doesn't need it anymore. He did, however, have a moment the other night that I thought was very cute and I wanted to record it.

We were getting ready for bed and Owen said, "Owen need paci. No thank you, big boy."

Owen, if I had it my way, you wouldn't be a big boy this fast, either.

On a side note, Owen's right eardrum burst last week.  He recovered really quickly and is doing fine now.  Poor kid... this is his 3rd ear infection since January and also his 3rd ear infection ever.  The doctor says it's just a stage that most kids go through and it will pass as his ears learn to drain themselves (without bursting!).
